The Trivia Night held on January 30 wasn\u2019t just awesome. It was better than awesome in ways that matter deeply to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"621\" height=\"401\" data-id=\"5062\" src=\"http:\/\/brainstrong.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Family-2-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5062\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brainstrong.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Family-2-1.jpeg 621w, https:\/\/brainstrong.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Family-2-1-300x194.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/brainstrong.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Family-2-1-600x387.jpeg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 621px) 100vw, 621px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This team is awesome, because of who&#8217;s on it &#8211; however the awesomeness didn&#8217;t translate to trivia-awesomeness!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, it was <strong>sold out<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let that sink in for a moment. Every seat filled. Every table buzzing. Every question answered with laughter, friendly trash talk, and that unmistakable energy that comes from people choosing to show up. For me, the sold-out sign meant more than a full room \u2014 it was confirmation. Confirmation that people <strong>do<\/strong> want to help. That they care. That this mission resonates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was the <strong>fourth<\/strong> trivia night I\u2019ve organized, but it was the <strong>first<\/strong> one with a dual purpose: raising funds <em>and<\/em> raising awareness for something much bigger that I\u2019ll be launching later this year, right before bike season starts. The initiative is called <strong>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/brainstrong.net\/i-am-brainstrong\/\">I am BrainSTRONG.<\/a>\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trivia Night was the perfect proving ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between questions, prizes, and laughter, conversations started happening. Real ones. About brain injuries. About prevention. About how most brain injuries are invisible \u2014 until they aren\u2019t. And about how small mindset shifts can lead to massive cultural change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s exactly what <em><a href=\"https:\/\/brainstrong.net\/i-am-brainstrong\/\">I am BrainSTRONG<\/a><\/em> is about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At its core, the initiative aims to change the <strong>perspective<\/strong> of wearing a helmet when biking \u2014 from <em>\u201cI have to\u201d<\/em> to <em>\u201cI want to.\u201d<\/em> Not because someone is forcing it. Not because of a law. But because it\u2019s smart. Because it\u2019s normal. Because it\u2019s what we do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If that sounds ambitious, good. Because we\u2019ve seen this kind of shift happen before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In <strong>1979<\/strong>, the NHL made wearing helmets mandatory. Players scoffed. They complained. They said it was uncomfortable. Unnecessary. That it would change the game. Not one. The idea is unthinkable \u2014 not because it\u2019s enforced, but because the mindset changed. Helmets became part of the identity of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the picture with me is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eliteprospects.com\/player\/181924\/kerry-goulet\">Kerry Goulet<\/a>, a retired professional hockey player. He&#8217;s fully mobile, speaks clearly, he&#8217;s coach for <a href=\"https:\/\/melbourneice.hockey\/\">Melbourne Ice<\/a>, and runs <a href=\"https:\/\/stopconcussions.com\/\">StopConcussions<\/a> also a strong advocate for helmets, because he&#8217;s also an invisible Acquired Brain Injury recipient (can&#8217;t see it, but it&#8217;s there).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cycling helmets don\u2019t need more nagging. They need a mindset shift. They need pride. Ownership. Identity. <em><strong>I am BrainSTRONG<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">January 30 showed me that this shift is possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The room was full. The support was real. The energy was contagious. And the belief \u2014 mine and everyone else\u2019s \u2014 grew stronger with every question asked and every laugh shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So yes, Trivia Night was fun. Yes, it raised funds that will help bring <em><a href=\"https:\/\/brainstrong.net\/i-am-brainstrong\/\">I am BrainSTRONG<\/a><\/em> to life. But more importantly, it reminded me why I\u2019m doing this in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People care. People show up. And together, we can change the way we think \u2014 one helmet, one mindset, one better-than-awesome night at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stay tuned.
