{"id":4313,"date":"2026-05-01T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brainstrong.net\/?p=4313"},"modified":"2026-04-24T08:18:03","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T12:18:03","slug":"paradigm-shift-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brainstrong.net\/?p=4313","title":{"rendered":"A Paradigm Shift is Coming!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something big is starting this month, and what it&#8217;s about has the power to reshape how our entire country views helmet safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At a press conference to be held at <a href=\"https:\/\/vistacentre.ca\/\">Vista Centre Brain Injury Services<\/a>, we\u2019ll officially launch the development of <strong>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/brainstrong.net\/i-am-brainstrong\/https:\/\/brainstrong.net\/i-am-brainstrong\/\">I am BrainSTRONG<\/a>,\u201d<\/strong> which will be a groundbreaking new campaign that\u2019s not about enforcing helmet use\u2014it\u2019s about transforming it into a <em><strong>choice everyone will proudly make<\/strong><\/em>. This isn\u2019t a typical safety campaign. This is the beginning of a <strong>paradigm shift<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It will probably be like when the NHL made helmets mandatory back in 1979, where there was resistance. Players thought it wasn\u2019t necessary, and some thought it made them &#8220;look weak.&#8221;  But over time, something incredible happened\u2014it became the norm. Today not a single player would imagine stepping on the ice today without one. That\u2019s the culture change we\u2019re after with biking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, unlike hockey, there aren&#8217;t referees on the road. We won\u2019t have rules being enforced with penalties. Kids are required to wear one by law, but adults for the most part don&#8217;t \u2014 which means that when they turn 18 (when they age-out of the law) they&#8217;ll stop wearing it.  What we <em>do<\/em> have is something much more powerful: <strong>people inspiring other people<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/brainstrong.net\/i-am-brainstrong\/\">I am BrainSTRONG<\/a>,\u201d riders across the country will be invited to record and share a short video on our website, saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cMy name is &lt;first name&gt;, I live in &lt;city, province&gt; and I\u2019ll wear my helmet when biking \u2014 because I am BrainSTRONG!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I talk about <em>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/brainstrong.net\/i-am-brainstrong\/\">I am BrainSTRONG<\/a>,\u201d<\/em> I\u2019m not talking about another safety campaign. I\u2019m talking about a shift in how we think \u2014 from <em><strong>having to<\/strong><\/em> wear a helmet to <strong><em>wanting to<\/em><\/strong>. This isn\u2019t about rules or fear. It\u2019s about pride, identity, and self-respect. Protecting your brain doesn\u2019t make you weak \u2014 it makes you smart, and it makes you strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s built on real stories \u2014 stories like mine. The only reason I survived being hit by that minivan was that I wore a helmet. That helmet didn\u2019t make me invincible \u2014 I\u2019m an &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.freedomhme.com\/blog\/post\/what-is-an-ambulatory-wheelchair-user-#:~:text=An%20ambulatory%20wheelchair%20user%20is%20someone%20who%20mainly%20uses%20a,or%20moving%20around%20with%20support.\">ambulatory wheelchair user<\/a>&#8220;, I see double, and have a speech impediment \u2014 but it <em><strong>gave me another chance at life<\/strong>.<\/em> And that\u2019s what this movement is about: giving others that same chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Back in 1979, NHL players resisted helmets. They thought it made them look weak. Today, no one would step on the ice without one. We\u2019re aiming for that same cultural shift \u2014 a world where wearing a helmet is the norm, not the exception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is about community, too. Parents, teachers, coaches, kids \u2014 everyone can join in. Record a video, take the pledge, be proud. Small actions lead to big change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At its core, <em>\u201c<strong>I am BrainSTRONG<\/strong>\u201d<\/em> is hope in action. It reminds us that a simple choice \u2014 putting on a helmet \u2014 can save a life. It\u2019s a promise to ourselves, our families, and the next generation: that protecting our brains is something to be proud of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s simple. It\u2019s empowering. And it works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Join us as we flip the script and help spark a national movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is more than a press conference.
